From Design to Reality: The Story of Our Feline-Friendly Catio Build

Recently, Cat Topia had the opportunity to build a catio for a customer in El Cajon, CA.  A catio, also known as a cat patio, is an outdoor enclosure that provides a safe space for cats to enjoy the outdoors while still being protected from potential dangers.

Our customer’s catio measured 8 feet by 4 feet and was painted white to give it a clean and modern look. We also installed a white polycarbonate roof to provide protection from the elements and to keep the enclosure cool on hot summer days.

One of the key features of the catio was the double fencing. We used high quality pet screen as the outer fence and black galvanized wire fencing as the inner fence. This double layer of fencing not only adds an extra layer of protection, but it also helps to keep small animals out and prevent any potential escapes.

Fact: Every Cat Owner Should Consider Building a Catio

Inside the catio, we included multiple cat shelves for the feline residents to climb and play on. These shelves provide both physical and mental stimulation for the cats and give them a sense of elevation and a place to observe their surroundings.

In addition to the shelves, we also installed a single cat ramp to allow the cats to easily access the different levels of the enclosure. This is especially important for older cats or those with mobility issues.

One of the biggest benefits of a catio is the added security it provides for your feline friends. Outdoor cats are at risk of being injured or killed by predators, cars, and other hazards. A catio allows them to enjoy the sights, sounds, and smells of the outdoors while still being safely enclosed.

Another benefit is the opportunity for exercise and mental stimulation. Cats are naturally curious and need to be able to explore and play in order to stay healthy and happy. A catio gives them a designated space to do just that, without the risk of getting lost or into trouble.

Overall, our customer’s catio was a success and we are sure their feline friends will enjoy it for years to come. If you are considering building a catio for your own feline companions, there are many options and styles to choose from. The important thing is to provide a safe and stimulating environment for your cats to enjoy the great outdoors.
