A Catio is a fully-enclosed space for a cat! The correct choice of roofing is crucial for the Catio. A roof provides shade and protection from elements such as rain, wind and snow.

At Cat Topia, our standard roofing is corrugated galvanized steel panel roofing. 

Here you will find a description of 3 possible upgrades to different Catio roofs.

  • Durability: Galvanized steel (100% zinc)  is resistant to elements such as wind, rain, and snow. For drier climates, this roofing is a great choice.
  • Sustainability: This metal is 100% recyclable. Often times, zinc will be recycled to be used in other types of roofing.
  • Style: Shiny and industrial looking. Only available in the steel color.
  • Cost: Cost-effective because it is only made from one metal.

Classic Rib Steel Roof Paneling

Characteristics 

Matte finish with choice of color possible

45% Zinc, 50% Aluminium, Low amount of silicon

Durable and light weight 

Repels heat 

Non-combustible

  • Durability: Very resistant to the elements. The added materials make this roofing more resistant to rust and corrosion. Even in the wettest of climates, this roofing will be durable.
  • Sustainability: 100% recyclable.
  • Style:  Available in any color.
  • Cost: More expensive than galvanized steel roofing due to its composition of 3 materials.

Polycarbonate roof paneling

Matte finish with a choice of color 

Thermoplastic

UV blockage

Resistance to extreme temperatures

Low environmental impact 

  • Durability: Built from a strong plastic, this material has a reputation for being very durable. It will maintain not only its strength but color over time.
  • Sustainability: Polycarbonate roof paneling is 100% recyclable. Polycarbonate roofing has 15-25% lower green house gas emissions compared to other materials used in roofing.
  • Style:  Availble in any color.
  • Cost: More expensive than metal roofing options.

Clear Polycarbonate Roof paneling

Characteristics 

Matte finish with clear paneling- increased visibility for cat(s)

  • Durability: Built from a strong plastic, this material has a reputation for being very durable. It will maintain its strength over the years.
  • Sustainability: Polycarbonate roof paneling is 100% recyclable. Polycarbonate roofing has 15-25% lower green house gas emissions compared to other materials used in roofing.
  • Style:  Available in only clear, but we like this option because it offers full visibility for cat(s).
  • Cost: More expensive than metal roofing options.
Made from clear polycarbonate roof paneling, this roof lets light in but protects cats from UV rays. Clear roofing alows for the cat to see out of Catio on all sides.
